• Power Yoga
Also known as vinyasa yoga, it is an adaptation of traditional Ashtanga. It was born in the 1980s when the Western world was all about aerobics. As the name suggests, prenatal yoga is for pregnant women. For each trimester, there is a specific series of poses meant to keep the muscles strong. Muscles that retain strength tend to bounce back faster after birth. Prenatal yoga also includes positions to bring the body back into shape after birth.
This type of yoga is for individuals who do not like to conform to cookie-cutter categories. Anusara emphasizes on maintaining a pose to the fullest ability of the student instead of the standard. It is, for this reason, it is known as Iyengar yoga form with a pinch of humor. This style of yoga is about accepting.
This style of yoga compliments the yang forms like Anusara and Ashtanga. It requires a lot of patience as most of the poses are about relaxing, lying down and letting gravity work on the body. It is meditative in nature and also known by the name Taoist yoga. The passive poses of yin style yoga are said to lengthen connective tissue.
So, named after the inventor Bikram Choudhury, this style has twenty-six basic poses which are performed two times. Bikram style of yoga is done in heated environments. The humidity of the place is set at forty percent while the temperature averages about 105 degrees. It is the sauna-like atmosphere that sets this style apart from others.
This form of yoga is also called furniture yoga because it uses as many props as possible to get the posture in perfect alignment. From blocks to straps to harness to foam rolls, this form of yoga uses them all. It is also known as purist yoga because it requires precision in both form and breathing. It was invented by B.K.S. Iyengar and can be performed by anyone at any age.
